Nikola Jokic for MVP? Colorado clients receive an early payout from PointsBet

Nikola Jokic’s fans love his below-the-rim creativity and selfless attitude. He recently said he never plays basketball “to win individual awards. MVP is just something people and media are trying to make a story out of.”

Sorry, Nikola, but your individual greatness is a story.

And so is this: PointsBet has decided to provide an early payout to Colorado residents who wagered on Jokic to be named the NBA’s MVP.

That’s right – even if Jokic doesn’t win the award, PointsBet clients in the Centennial State who had faith in him will. The Jokic MVP wagers will be paid out Saturday on Fan Appreciation Night, nearly four weeks before the winner is revealed.

Jokic opened the season at +2500 to win the award, miles behind the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo (+400), Luka Doncic (+400), Anthony Davis (+1000), LeBron James (+1200), Kawhi Leonard (+1600) and Stephen Curry (+2000). Jokic was 11th on the board.

Compounding that, the Nuggets opened the season 1-4.

Jokic notched his season’s fourth triple-double in a Jan. 3 victory over the Timberwolves. His odds dropped to +1200 (wager $100 to collect an additional $1,200) and then to +600 on Jan. 26 during Denver’s five-game winning streak.

Jokic was +350 during the All-Star break and overtook LeBron James as the favorite on March 18 – one day before his 34-point, 15-rebound, 9-assist effort in an overtime victory over the Bulls. As Jokic dipped to +175, James ticked up to +200.

Joel Embiid emerged as a threat in February, during which he averaged 32.3 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 1.4 blocks. But while Embiid has missed 19 games due to injury’s and the league’s health and safety protocols, Jokic has suited up for every Nuggets game.

He became the odds-on favorite (-110) to win March 20 and his position strengthened as the Nuggets went 13-3 in April. Jokic averaged 24.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 8.8 assists for the month.

It adds up to a dominant MVP candidacy.

And if you’re a PointsBet client in Colorado who wagered on him, you won’t even have to sweat out the June 1 announcement.
