Hockey bettors, rejoice: PointsBet introduces NHL ‘Overtime Insurance’

The PointsBet Karma Kommittee rights the wrongs that occur in sports betting, offering holiday cheer – in the form of Free Bet refunds – a full 12 months a year.

With hockey season approaching, the Kommittee met and decided to do something extraordinary. Why have bettors wait for a bad beat? Why not take the initiative?

The result is a promotion we call “PointsBet Overtime Insurance.”

Here’s how it works: Place a pregame hockey bet on a moneyline wager. If that game goes into overtime or a shootout and your team loses, that’s OK. You still will receive up to $50 (a dollar-for-dollar match) in Free Bets.

Other sportsbooks have done this for a game, perhaps even a series. PointsBet is offering it for every game to start the 2021 season.

Think about if you’d wagered on Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Lightning (-160) were heavy favorites over the Stars (+135), and the game went to overtime. Tampa Bay won 5-4, but those who wagered on PointsBet would have been safe either way.

“We have seen so many tough overtime and shootout losses over the years,” said Ron Shell, PointsBet VP of Customer & Insights. “We wanted to take away the need to make Bad Beat/Good Karma Decisions and offer Overtime Insurance for EVERY GAME.”

So there you have it. The puck drops on the NHL season Wednesday with the Penguins taking on the Flyers. If the game is tied after regulation, you can’t lose. PointsBet has your back.
